Cuban poet and freedom activist Luis Eligo D'Omni recently visited us here in New Orleans. I wrote a poem based on his account of beatings he's received from the police & conversation with his mother. Luis returned the favor making this video.
Roger. I really connected with the line "the first salt water of my shore". Emerging into new life through suffering is so powerful. I had a recent experience of it that launched me. I am reading Burnt Books. Is severe editing a parallel to book burning? At Kenyon Marie Howe referred to my writing as interestingly minimalistic. I want the reader to make the connections, so I back off by cutting to the bone. I burn more than half what I write.
Wow use of video with the subject moving in and out.
